General Appearence
Symmetry and general appearance,decidedly square and coby.A lean ,leggy pug and dog with short legs and a long body are equally obejectionable. Size,Proportion,Substance The pug should be mutum in Parvo(much in little)and this condensation (if the word may be used) should be shown by compactness of form,well-knit proportions,and hardness of developed muscle. Weight fro 14-18lbs.(6.3-8.1 kgs)male or female desirable.Proportion:square. Head The head is medium to large,round~not apple headed. with no indentation of the skull.The eyes are drown to dark in color,very large,bold and prominent,globular in shape.,soft and solicitous in expression,very lustrous,and when excited,full of fire..The ears are thin,small,softlike black velvet.There are two kinds-the rose and the button. The wrinkles are medium to large and deep.The muzzle is short,bunt square,but not up faced. Bite A pugs bite should be very slightly undershot.Both front rows of teeth should be straight between the canines. Neck,Topline,Body the neck is slightly arched.It is strong,thick,and with enough legth to carry the head proudly. The short back is level from the withers to the high tail set.The body is short and coby,blunt square,but not up-faced. Forequarters The legs are very strong, straight,of moderate length,and are set well under.Tthe elbows should be directly under the withers when viewed from the side.The shoulders are moderately laid back.The pasterns are strong,neither steep,The feett are neither so long as the foot of the hare,nor so round as that of the cat;well split-up toes,and the nails dark.Declaws may or may not be removed. Hindquarters The strong,powerful hindquarters have a moderate bend of stifle,and short hock,perpendicular to the ground..The legs are parallel when viewed from behind.Hindquarters are in balence with the forequarters.Thighs and buttocks are full and muscular. Coat The coat is fine,smooth,soft,short and glossy,neither hard nor woolly. Colour The colors are Fawn,silver fawn,apricot fawn,Stone fawn,white,silver/grey,Apricot,brindle,or black. The fawn and Apricot fawn colors should be decided so as to make a contrast complete between the color and the trace,and the mask.(fawn being more creamy,and apricot being more of a warm color like sunshine or golden.) The Stone fawn is a colder version of the fawn with more dark points to the defined trace,mask and ears.The mask can come further up the face and be less defined than the other fawns described here. The Black is to be glossy jet black. The White can be all white,or have some warm hints of apricot to the mask ears,and trace,but with dark nails and pigment. Silver/Grey Should be a salt and peppering of black and white fur through out the body with no defined mask or trace,although a trace is ok if present. Can also have warm hues of apricot and brown to the silver grey fur. The Apricot is darker than the fawn version,with more dark points to the defined trace,mask, and ears.The mask can come further up the face and be less defined than the other fawns described here. The Brindle coat is of two opposite types.The first of these includes those pugs having dark background with lighter-coloredfawn stripes or streaks showing through.The second type has what is termed reversed brindling. Here the effect is of very clearly defined dark stripes on a fawn back round.The mask and ears should be as black as possible.White marks at the chest bigger than the size of a dime and white toes are not desireable. Markings The markings are clearly defined,the muzzle or mask.ears moles on cheeks,thumb ,mark, or diamond on forehead,and the mask trace should be as black as possible.The mask should be black.The more intense and well defined it is the better.The trace is a black line extending from the occiput to the tail.Except in the brindle there is not trace. Gait veiwed from the front,the forelegs should be carried well forward showing no weakness in the pasterns,the paws landing squarely with the central toes straight ahead. The rear action should be strong and free through hocks and stifles,with no twisting or turning in or out at the joints.The hind legs shoulf follow in line with the front. there is a slight natural convergence limbs both fore and aft. A slight roll of the hind quarters typifies the gait which should be free,self assured and ,jaunty. Temperament This is an even tempered breed,exibiting stability,playfulness,great charm,dignity,and an outgoing,loving,disposition. Disqualifications Wry mouth,teeth or tongue showing,Excluding white Pugs, white anywhere but the chest . White on the chest of all the colors except the white pug should not be larger than the size of a dime.
